Warm up your winter nights with this bold and smoky twist on a classic mulled wine recipe. Infused with Wabanaki Maple's Chipotle Infused Maple Syrup, this drink brings together the richness of dry red wine, zesty citrus, and traditional winter spices, balanced perfectly with the smoky sweetness of maple. Perfect for cozy evenings by the fire or hosting friends during chilly weather, this recipe delivers an elevated taste experience with a delightful kick!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle of dry red wine

  • 1/4 cup Cointreau

  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds (peel for a less-bitter drink)

  • 8 whole cloves

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 star anise

  • 2 to 4 tablespoons Chipotle Infused Maple Syrup (to taste)

  • Optional garnishes: additional citrus slices (orange, lemon, lime), cinnamon sticks, or star anise

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the wine, Cointreau, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and 2 tablespoons of the Chipotle Infused Maple Syrup.

  2. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring briefly, and allow it to reach just below a simmer (do not boil).

  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the mixture simmer gently for at least 15 minutes, or up to 3 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.

  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices and citrus slices. Adjust sweetness by adding more syrup if desired.

  5. Serve warm in heatproof mugs, and garnish with your favorite touches like a citrus slice or a cinnamon stick.
